Puncturing Sleeping Pads… on Purpose

Gear Lab Test Editor at Outside, Adam Trenkamp, explains how he tests sleeping pad durability and resistance to punctures. He fills sleeping pads to capacity, and then uses various needles to slowly puncture them while measuring the force of the impact. He can then compare the different pads and brands on a scale of toughest to least tough. These stats help pick a sleeping pad based on the conditions it might be used in.
