The 44th edition of the Zurich marathon of Barcelona started with a chill in the air, but high hopes of yet another record-breaking year. In the shadow of the museum of art Catalunya, Montjuic, the Olympic mountain, 15000 runners, 5000 more than last year, 25% women, 119 nationalities.

A gripping tale of one man’s determination to smash the record for cycling around the globe, Around the World in 80 Days follows endurance athlete Mark Beaumont as he makes history by realizing his burning ambition to reclaim the circumnavigation world record that he had first set in 2008. This epic journey sees Mark covering 18,000 miles, riding 16 hours a day for over two and a half months, cycling through some of the harshest conditions that one man and his bicycle can endure.  This feat of physical and mental toughness is a story of Mark and his team’s incredible resilience. It is both an insight into the mind of an elite athlete and a kaleidoscopic tour of the world from a unique perspective. Blackwaters encompasses the power of five Black men whose paths have been challenged with loss, defeat, fear, and pain by life’s ups and downs and the social injustice that Black men and Black boys face daily. They have fallen into an “endangered species,” only surviving daily. Through surviving life’s trials, each man has found grace and success in the outdoors, healed and mended by nature’s medicine to the soul, embracing the art of fly fishing and building brotherhood. Blackwater is an expedition, a journey in the Gates Of The Arctic Circle National Park, adventure, a vision quest, and a fly fishing adventure that surpasses the color of their skin, connecting to the fundamentals of nature, the poetry of life, and prosperous joy. Like indigenous communities, they find self-fulfillment in being outdoors. They find their representation and hold space for everyone, especially inspiring young Black boys. It is a dual survival between black boys who can not make the connection to a black man in the outdoors due to lack of representation and black men finding representation in wild spaces to call their own. Hopefully, these youths can see themselves and be inspired to embark on their journeys into the outdoors. The concept is a tactically crafted story in dialogue and adventure, emphasizing dismantling the fear of BIPOC and inspiring BIPOC to pursue their journey outdoors and uplift black boys’ lives in green spaces.

His journey will take him from his family home in Surrey to the streets of West London and the school where he was first spotted as a phenomenal young athlete. He’ll travel back to his family village in Somaliland to ask his mother and twin brother what they know of the traumatic childhood event that changed his life forever. Finally, he will turn to the Somali community in London in the hope that they can explain the mystery at the heart of his life.

Hail Mary is the fusion of a documentary biopic and a traditional surf film. At his home in Long Beach, New York, we learn about the life of professional surfer Balaram Stack. Childhood photos and home videos illustrate the beautiful relationship between Balaram and his mother, Mary, who was an invaluable force in helping Balaram go from a small-town surfer on New York’s Long Island to the world champion he is today. Mary’s commitment to her son and his passion for the water is endless, and her ability to stand by him without pressuring him to choose a different path is nothing short of inspiring. Woven throughout the heritage surf footage and interviews are incredible surf sequences from around the world. Years of footage make up the stunning shots of some of Balaram’s best waves at Pipeline, Teahupoo, and returning to New York to surf hurricane swell at his home break.

Chronicling the blue-collar story and rise of a cult sport to a global phenomenon that put the race-driven sport of mountain biking on the map in the world of action sports and the mainstream.

Outside Studios, in association with Freeride Entertainment, breaks boundaries in documentary filmmaking, taking a step beyond the talking head interview and deep into the mindset of its cast. Nothing’s for Free features the biggest names in mountain biking, from the early pioneers of adventure to modern-day internet superstars like Danny Macaskill and Brandon Semenuk.
